Searchable Schedule Pro (aka The Course Horse) is an improved version of Case's Searchable Schedule of Classes. I created this with two other classmates as a final project for our Databases class. This project was made at the same time as the Keryo-Pente project. My friend, Jaymz Reiswig, and I were in the same group for both classes. Since both of these projects demanded a lot of time, we decided I would take over most of the work on this project, and he would take most of the work on the Pente project.

Features at a glance:

  • Fully searchable real schedule of classes
  • Difficulty rating of the class/professor
  • Course evaluations compiled into charts and graphs
  • Personal schedule creation
  • Administrator/Professor mode (allows editing of class information)

Our biggest and most popular feature was the Difficulty rating we came up with. We derived this rating using the course evaluations which are all posted online. Rather than looking through about 10,000 course evaluations by hand, I used some skills I picked up from an old job and wrote a spider which collected all the evaluations and put them in a database. This project was very rewarding as it helped me pick out some easy technical electives my senior year!
